THE RIGHT PREPARATION
What the work involves
Asphalt milling removes a selected depth of pavement rather than excavating the entire structure. It can help restore surface elevations and prepare existing asphalt for a planned repair or overlay.
Typical project applications
- Surface preparation before resurfacing
- Correction of selected surface irregularities
- Removal of deteriorated asphalt layers

Planning the work
A rotating cutting drum removes the designated asphalt layer. The material is collected for hauling, and the milled surface is cleaned before the next construction activity. Depth and limits should follow the project specifications.
Full-depth milling considerations
Removing the full asphalt layer requires a defined depth, an assessment of the underlying base, and a plan for reconstruction. Milling limits and repair needs should follow the project specifications; base excavation is not automatically included.
Milling & hauling coordination
Removed asphalt must be collected, moved, and routed to an agreed destination. Include material quantities, truck access, staging space, and any recycling or disposal requirements when defining your milling scope.
